Ron, what an incredible reflection. I love it. I believe you articulated what Sydney brings to my life quite perfectly: she slows everything down so I can see more clearly, so I can embrace more fully, so I don't MISS it by rushing through to the next thing. She also helps me re-prioritize (like, daily!). Sydney isn't just special because she has Down syndrome; she has a certain essence about her that is very serene. She exudes that energy and so effects those around her with her mere presence. When she has behavior issues (which have been increasing through puberty--I mean, seriously? Hormones and adolescence is hard enough without an intellectual disability), her spirit is masked by her outward manifestation, but not to everyone. Those who can really see who she is will help her through this period of time. Thank you, thank you, for so eloquently commenting and making this mom feel great. <3

Paragraphs number 12 and 13 are so incredibly written. Lisa, I think you have been given the gift of slow motion. life gets so quick paced, it goes by so fast. especially childhood and our roles as parents. of course parenting is a life time job. but the time we have them in our home is so short. with your daughter it seems that you get to experience it in slow motion. maybe because your attention has to be on her 100 percent. the lessons you learn from her, about her, about you and about life is slowed down a bit. what a blessing. your writing of your experience helps us all slow down enough to learn some beautiful lessons. a chance to stop and smell those roses while they are in season. I love your writing and am blessed by it , every time I slow down and read it.... while it is in season...
